Live up to your potential!!

A few weeks ago, we contacted a guy named RB. We didn`t feel like he was really ready to hear our message, but he invited us to go back another day and talk to him. We really didn`t think he was going to progress very much. A few days after we contacted him, we found him again, but this time drunk. We sat down with him and he expressed why he was so sad and why he was drinking. We taught him about eternal families and the hope that we have to see our families again. I remember last week I emailed about him and how he looked us right in the eye to see if we were telling him the truth.

Yesterday, he went to church again. He is loving it! The first time we went to his house, it was a disaster. He was all dirty, his house was all dirty, and we felt a little weird being there. Now we go, and he has his bed all made, all the dishes washed, everything. He is changing little by little. Yesterday he committed to stop drinking, drinking coffee, and smoking. He is reading his pamphlet about the Plan of Salvation every day.

I love to see how someone so so lost can have a little spark in their eye, and I love to see when that spark grows until their whole face is covered with light. It reminds me of the scripture in Alma:

27 But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words.

That is how it happened with me too. I remember feeling so bad and feeling like I would never be able to recieve forgiveness. I felt dark and sad. One day, someone in Relief Society told me something that was a litte little spark. So small. I thought--maybe I can receive forgiveness. I let that little spark grow through scripture study, prayer, church, and leaders that helped me. That little thought of ¨maybe¨ turned into faith, and now that faith has turned into knowledge. I know I can be forgiven and I know that Jesus Christ lives. I don`t have a single doubt about that. That He lives! I know Him. Not perfectly, but I know Him now.

I know this is the true chruch and that Jesus Christ died for us. He is our Savior. He literally saves us, and I know that we can reach our full potential with him. Not live below our potential.

Sister R told me a story this week about a guy who wanted to go on a cruise, so he started saving up money. It was a really expensive cruise, and he didn`t have very much money. He saved and saved until finally he had just barely enough money to go. He left for his cruise, knowing that he would not be able to do anything on the ship but enjoy the water. He didn`t have the money to buy a fancy meal or take pictures or anything. After the week long cruise, they got back to shore. One of the workers there stopped the man and asked him--¨this whole week you have been on one of the most elegant cruises in the world, and you didn`t have fun. You didn`t eat well or anything. Why didn`t you participate in the activities or dances during your stay?¨ The man told him that he had only saved up enough money to be on the cruise, not anything else. The worker then said ¨You didn`t know that all the food and activities are included in the cruise?!¨

Let`s make sure this week that we don`t live below our potential!!! We are sons and daughters of God. He loves us and wants us to be like Him! He has huge blessings in store for those who live up to their potential!!

I love you! Have a great week!

week thousand and one.

This week we were able to help a guy named RB to understand that families can be forever. His wife died a few months ago, and they were married for 25 years!! He has been so sad lately, and he asked us if all this was true. If families really can be together forever. He looked me right in the eye to see if I was lying. I told him it was true, and he accepted to prepare for a baptism. He went to church yesterday. He really wants to have his wife with him again one day. I know it will be possible for him if he puts in his part. He will be able to have all of his loved ones at his side again.

We had to dress up all fancy for a meeting with President and Mexico`s doctor this week. It was such a fancy meeting that we had to shower before going, paint our fingernails, and cake on a bunch of makeup. It was a good meeting. We learned how to cook meat without getting sick and not drink tap water here.

Funny things:

An old lady went with us to visit our investigators this week. She had brought a fish to give to her daughter on the way to cook for dinner, but her daughter was not home. Here, almost no one has a car or anything, so she came in a bus. She then wanted to give the fish to everyone we found in the street and everyone we visited so that she would not have to carry it around in her purse. She had a FISH in her PURSE!!!

We were teaching a catholic guy this week to pray to our Heavenly Father (Padre) to know if these things are true. He was super confused the whole time and kept talking about things off-subject. We kept teaching about prayer so that he would get it. Finally the light bulb went on and he said: OH!!! I thought you were telling me to ask my church pastor (padre) if this was all true!!!!

Hahaha have a wonderful week!!!

Juan. Jesus. Luis.

There are only three names for Mexican men here. Juan, Jesus, and Luis. There are only a few people here that have different names. Here, they give someone their name for the day they are born. Every day has a ¨saint,¨ and they name their babies for the saints. For example, my baby girl was born the 3rd of March. Her name will be Guadalupe. 4th of March it`s Maria. How easy is that?! You never have to pick out a name. You never have to see the table leg to give your son a name or look endlessly in baby name books!! ;)

This week, we found a really, really cool investigator!! His name is.....you guessed it....juan jesus, or luis. We contacted him in the street. We gave him a pamphlet about the Restoration and we put an appointment down to go back and visit him. He is so so so smart that he learned english perfectly just by watching movies. When we went back, he had read the entire pamphlet and he had questions!! He told us that he had never prayed before, and at the end of that lesson, we invited him to pray. Saturday, we stopped by to visit him again and he says he has been praying every day. He`s already reading about Nephi and Laban and loves to read the Book of Mormon!!!

I have seen how Heavenly Father is preparing people to listen to us out here in Cuauhtemoc more than any other place that I have been my whole mission! It is a land of miracles!! I am writing with wet feet and cold fingers that will be cold and wet all day long, but it is so worth it for the people that are here in this magical place. I know this message we have is true, and being a missionary is the best thing that has ever happened to me!

Love you!

while looking for number 3207, we found three 3205s. Welcome to mexico!!!! haha We never found 3207.

the cold of cuauhtemoc! It`s a dry cold.

what a lovely way to go potty.

this is what the street looks like when it rains. they don`t have a drainage system in the streets, so pretty big puddles form up. People die from drowning when it rains here.

week one......of a new agenda

These last few weeks we haven't been having the same success as before. For two weeks now, the things have changed drastically. Yesterday I was wondering why things have changed these last few weeks, and I was able to receive revelation for what we should change.

The first weeks we were here, I was working on having more faith every day. These last few weeks, I haven`t been working on my faith. In Preach My Gospel, it says ¨Having faith in Christ includes having a firm belief that He is the Only Begotten Son of God and the Savior and Redeemer of the world.¨ and in chapter six it says ¨Faith in Him means that you trust Him and are confident that He loves you.¨

¨Faith leads to action...You accomplish what the Lord wants you to accomplish. You help bring about good in your own life and the lives of others. You are able to do miracles according to the Lord’s will. Your faith will be manifest through diligence and work...Doubt and fear are opposed to faith.¨ I realized that I have been lacking faith. It is a principle of power. Power to complete this work. Power to do what the Lord would have me do.

To increase our faith, we should pray, study the scriptures dilligently, serve, and obey the Spirit`s promptings and the commandments.

I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior. We are teaching a guy that says that Christ came to the earth, but not for religious purposes. He has a lot of ideas and he is very intelligent, but I know that Christ came here for us. He came here to pay the price. He came to redeem us. I know He came and I know that He will come again.

We teach another man that says he does not believe Christ has come do the earth. He does not believe that he can recieve forgiveness for the things he has done in his life. From someone that has messed up a lot in her life, I know He can forgive us. From feeling so low and literally sick inside to feeling like a bird flying in the air, I know Christ can forgive us. I know we knew Him before we got here. I know He came, and I know He is coming. He lives!!!

I love you!!

Gratitud

Que puedo decir de esta semana? I have learned so much this week about the spirit and about the way that Heavenly Father works. This week we went to bring M, a really great investigator, to her baptism. An hour after knocking and knocking on the door, she finally came out. We knew she was there for her two year old son, who was roaming the whole house and leaving and going in, but the mom would not come out. Finally she came out to tell us that she was not going to be baptized.

......uhhhhh........

so we went inside, knelt down, and all said a prayer together. The spirit was so strong!!!! But M didn`t recognize it. She was so confused and said that she still hadn`t recieved her answer, so she didn`t know what to do. There was another baptism in the church, so M decided to go see the baptism, not to be baptized.

When she saw J be baptized, M decided that she was going to do it. She took her baptisimal suit, suited up without a change of clothes or a towel or anything, and was baptized!! What a miracle!! She said she felt great, and now her husband is finally listening to us well too! Miracles happen!!!

We were so happy to see M get baptized after all the work she has put into it with her marriage and studying and praying. I know that God has a plan for us. A lot a lot a lot of the times we don`t see His plan and we get frustrated, but He`s so much smarter than we are. I know He has every little detail planned out. I know He loves us and wants us to be happy!!

Love you all! Have a crazy wonderful week!
