18 months and someone finally tried to rob me

This week I am super super super happy because someone FINALLY tried to rob me in the street!!! What is a mission without someone trying to rob you?! Huh? Mission: Complete.

It was a young man. He looked like he was in a hurry, but when he passed by me he tried to steal my WHOLE purse!! But I am like so manly and powerful and good at unexpected circumstances that I whipped around and let out a really manly scream which scared my companion. Then I pushed him away from me like a boss while my companion fell down to the ground tangled up in her own legs out of fear. Then I just stared this guy down. I just stared at him and he just stared at me for like six seconds and my companion just stayed on the ground and then all of the sudden he just left. I think I scared him. If it wasn`t my gaze, it was definitely my manly shout.

I feel like I can finish the mission now.

I got to have a personal interview with Elder Nash this week. It was really really really cool. He is a really nice guy. He asked me what I`m going to do after the mission and I told him that I have no idea. He told me how wonderful that is and that I just have to trust in the Lord and follow 100% what He tells me to do. He told me about his mission and some of his experiences, and most of all, he thanked me for my service. It was a really special experience. I want to do everything well so I can have the promises he told me I will have if I am faithful.

14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.

18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.

19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:

25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

I know that if we use what Heavenly Father has given us, He will make us rulers over many more things. Much is given, much is required. Heavenly Father has given me so much. I know that now He requires a lot of me. I hope to do well with what He has given me so that I can receive even more.

I love you all and will see you in a week and two days!!!

Semana 3

We have a really cool investigator. His name is M. He used to do drugs and drink a lot. Now he just smokes and drinks coffee. Last week we taught him the word of wisdom and he said he was going to stop smoking and drinking coffee. This week we told him he was going to stop drinking coffee on wednesday and he was like--why wednesday? Why so soon?!

We told him how much we believe that Christ can help him. How we know that through Jesus Christ, we can have the strength we need to overcome whatever obstacle is in our way.

Wednesday morning at eight he called us to tell us that HE DIDN´T DRINK COFFEE!! And that he never will again!! I love to see the strength people have when they put their trust in Christ.

Confide: Have the certainty, belief, or faith in something, above all in God and in Jesus Christ. In a spiritual sense, confide means to absolutely depend on God and in His Spirit.

I love you all and hope you have a wonderful week!!

A,B,F,M and R

Okay, let me just tell yall about a guy that is named..we´ll call him F.

One day late at night, we were headed home when we spotted F. We weren´t going to contact him, because contacting men late at night normally isn´t a very good thing. For some reason, I contacted him. He accepted and committed to go to church the next day. We called him Sunday in the morning and persuaded him to go to church. He said...okaaayyy.

The week after he went to church was such a good week for him in his work that he said--the difference is that I went to church this week!!--so the next week he went to church again until finally this Saturday he was baptized. He said yesterday in the principles class that it is important to keep going to church so that one day we can live with God again.

He is such a cool guy! He had a shady past, but now he will receive the priesthood. I am grateful we were able to contact him and help him on his way.

¨For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant; wherefore he receiveth no reward. Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness; For the power is in them, wherein they are agents unto themselves. And inasmuch as men do good they shall in nowise lose their reward. But he that doeth not anything until he is commanded, and receiveth a commandment with doubtful heart, and keepeth it with slothfulness, the same is damned. Doctrine and Covenants 58: 26-29

R, who was baptized last week, said this week ¨I want to have the Priesthood so that I can help others.¨ He is preparing to receive the priesthood in three weeks.

B, a 17 year old investigator, woke up at six yesterday to meet us in the park to go looking for all our investigators so that they would go to church at eight thirty. He has been going to church and youth activities every week and is seriously looking for the truth. He still hasn´t found his answer. Prayers for him would be appreciated.

M is going to church every sunday and even though he doesn´t learn very fast, he said this week that ¨every week he would go to church and that he already is mormon, just needs to be baptized.¨

A was really excited when we had a family home evening in her house with her family. She just got divorced this week and has been needing a lot of help from Heavenly Father. The family home evening helped her to relax and to feel the spirit, then play and have fun, and of course, eat something yummy.

Things are going great and we are seeing a lot of progress in the investigators and recient converts here. That is what always makes me happy--to see that they are changing, repenting, and getting better. Whatever price I have to pay, whatever thing I have to do, whatever stretch I  have to make--I will do it for them. I love the people here, and I love this place. I love being a missionary! It is all worth it!! :)

Love you all!!

semana 1

There is a saying in Spanish that every young child with a speaking problem says when they see mormons walking down the street.

¨Ay vienen los mamones!!!¨

Here come the mammons!!!

This week has been so incredibly awesome! I have a new companion, Sister L. She´s fresh off the patch and has been teaching me a lot. She has a lot of faith and has the spirit so strongly with her. This week we found some awesome new people that are interested in the gospel!! We had ten investigators go to church yesterday--more than I have had one Sunday in a long time--and they are all progressing and want to know more! We are so excited to keep teaching them and keep seeing their progress. We´ve gotta stay humble, obedient, and faithful so that we can keep seeing miracles.

Brother R was baptized on Wednesday. His whole family went to see the baptism. It was a really special day for us. His change has been so huge and I am so grateful that I was able to see it. I feel like I just stood on the sidelines watching the winning game. I am grateful to have had my seat so close to the game.

We also found a new family to teach by offering to help a guy in the street wash his truck. Everyone tells us no, but I have seen how their minds change when they see that we want to help them. He didn´t accept our help, but he did accept our message and introduce us to his wife. He said he had never ever listened to missionaries from any church before in all his life, but accepted our visits because we had offered to help him. They are preparing for baptism and their first Sunday at church was yesterday. How amazing that a little helping hand can do so much for someone else.

¨In the April 2014 general conference, Elder Richard G. Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles reminded us: “We best serve our Father in Heaven by righteously influencing others and serving them. The greatest example who ever walked the earth is our Savior, Jesus Christ.”

Selfless service—forgetting ourselves, responding to the needs of others, and laying down our lives in their service—has always been a characteristic of disciples of Jesus Christ. As King Benjamin taught more than 100 years before the birth of the Savior, “When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God” (Mosiah 2:17). “Pure religion” is more than a declaration of belief; it is a demonstration of belief.¨

I love you all and hope you have a great week!!

This week was such a good week!!! We could work well and we saw a lot of miracles! Remember R? This week HE PAID HIS TITHING. Investigators that pay their tithing? WOW. We taught him about the blessings of tithing. He is struggling a bit to feed himself and his son and keep his house and everything. They live off of 80 dollars a week. That´s 120 pesos of tithing. He put his faith in Heavenly Father that He will help him with all he needs this week. This guy is so cool.

We found a family this week too of 5. The dad had never ever stepped foot in a church before in his entire life. Yesterday, he went to church for the first time and loved it. His wife is already reading in 1st Nephi 8 and wants to know if the Book of Mormon is true. We are super excited to teach this family!!

I shouldn´t say we but I because today my companion has transfers. We are pretty sad. But things are going to be alright :)

We learned about gifts and talents this week with Mathew 15. President told me in front of everyone that I am not using the gift I have. Ouch. I will be working on that in these next few weeks!! If Heavenly Father gives us a gift, we should not hide it like the man who hid his one talent. We should not have fear that things are going to go wrong. We should develop and use the gift that He has given us so that He doesn´t take it away! When much is given, much is required!

Love you! Hope you all have a great week!!

Funny things:

My district leader scratched his butt in the middle of his presentation on monday and then proceeded to hand us chocolates with the same hand. I told him I don´t like chocolate...

My companion wore a hat this week so that she wouldn´t get burnt so much. That day three people talked to us in German thinking that we were menonites.

We contacted a guy under a tree the other day sitting on a bench. We were going to sit down with him when we realized the bench was covered in A BUNCH of bird poop. The man said that the bird poop had just barely fallen. While we were talking to him, bird poop kept falling down from the tree, covering this guy in crap. He was all good with it too. It didn´t matter to him that birds were pooping on him or anything!!!

Live up to your potential!!

A few weeks ago, we contacted a guy named RB. We didn`t feel like he was really ready to hear our message, but he invited us to go back another day and talk to him. We really didn`t think he was going to progress very much. A few days after we contacted him, we found him again, but this time drunk. We sat down with him and he expressed why he was so sad and why he was drinking. We taught him about eternal families and the hope that we have to see our families again. I remember last week I emailed about him and how he looked us right in the eye to see if we were telling him the truth.

Yesterday, he went to church again. He is loving it! The first time we went to his house, it was a disaster. He was all dirty, his house was all dirty, and we felt a little weird being there. Now we go, and he has his bed all made, all the dishes washed, everything. He is changing little by little. Yesterday he committed to stop drinking, drinking coffee, and smoking. He is reading his pamphlet about the Plan of Salvation every day.

I love to see how someone so so lost can have a little spark in their eye, and I love to see when that spark grows until their whole face is covered with light. It reminds me of the scripture in Alma:

27 But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words.

That is how it happened with me too. I remember feeling so bad and feeling like I would never be able to recieve forgiveness. I felt dark and sad. One day, someone in Relief Society told me something that was a litte little spark. So small. I thought--maybe I can receive forgiveness. I let that little spark grow through scripture study, prayer, church, and leaders that helped me. That little thought of ¨maybe¨ turned into faith, and now that faith has turned into knowledge. I know I can be forgiven and I know that Jesus Christ lives. I don`t have a single doubt about that. That He lives! I know Him. Not perfectly, but I know Him now.

I know this is the true chruch and that Jesus Christ died for us. He is our Savior. He literally saves us, and I know that we can reach our full potential with him. Not live below our potential.

Sister R told me a story this week about a guy who wanted to go on a cruise, so he started saving up money. It was a really expensive cruise, and he didn`t have very much money. He saved and saved until finally he had just barely enough money to go. He left for his cruise, knowing that he would not be able to do anything on the ship but enjoy the water. He didn`t have the money to buy a fancy meal or take pictures or anything. After the week long cruise, they got back to shore. One of the workers there stopped the man and asked him--¨this whole week you have been on one of the most elegant cruises in the world, and you didn`t have fun. You didn`t eat well or anything. Why didn`t you participate in the activities or dances during your stay?¨ The man told him that he had only saved up enough money to be on the cruise, not anything else. The worker then said ¨You didn`t know that all the food and activities are included in the cruise?!¨

Let`s make sure this week that we don`t live below our potential!!! We are sons and daughters of God. He loves us and wants us to be like Him! He has huge blessings in store for those who live up to their potential!!

I love you! Have a great week!

week thousand and one.

This week we were able to help a guy named RB to understand that families can be forever. His wife died a few months ago, and they were married for 25 years!! He has been so sad lately, and he asked us if all this was true. If families really can be together forever. He looked me right in the eye to see if I was lying. I told him it was true, and he accepted to prepare for a baptism. He went to church yesterday. He really wants to have his wife with him again one day. I know it will be possible for him if he puts in his part. He will be able to have all of his loved ones at his side again.

We had to dress up all fancy for a meeting with President and Mexico`s doctor this week. It was such a fancy meeting that we had to shower before going, paint our fingernails, and cake on a bunch of makeup. It was a good meeting. We learned how to cook meat without getting sick and not drink tap water here.

Funny things:

An old lady went with us to visit our investigators this week. She had brought a fish to give to her daughter on the way to cook for dinner, but her daughter was not home. Here, almost no one has a car or anything, so she came in a bus. She then wanted to give the fish to everyone we found in the street and everyone we visited so that she would not have to carry it around in her purse. She had a FISH in her PURSE!!!

We were teaching a catholic guy this week to pray to our Heavenly Father (Padre) to know if these things are true. He was super confused the whole time and kept talking about things off-subject. We kept teaching about prayer so that he would get it. Finally the light bulb went on and he said: OH!!! I thought you were telling me to ask my church pastor (padre) if this was all true!!!!

Hahaha have a wonderful week!!!

Juan. Jesus. Luis.

There are only three names for Mexican men here. Juan, Jesus, and Luis. There are only a few people here that have different names. Here, they give someone their name for the day they are born. Every day has a ¨saint,¨ and they name their babies for the saints. For example, my baby girl was born the 3rd of March. Her name will be Guadalupe. 4th of March it`s Maria. How easy is that?! You never have to pick out a name. You never have to see the table leg to give your son a name or look endlessly in baby name books!! ;)

This week, we found a really, really cool investigator!! His name is.....you guessed it....juan jesus, or luis. We contacted him in the street. We gave him a pamphlet about the Restoration and we put an appointment down to go back and visit him. He is so so so smart that he learned english perfectly just by watching movies. When we went back, he had read the entire pamphlet and he had questions!! He told us that he had never prayed before, and at the end of that lesson, we invited him to pray. Saturday, we stopped by to visit him again and he says he has been praying every day. He`s already reading about Nephi and Laban and loves to read the Book of Mormon!!!

I have seen how Heavenly Father is preparing people to listen to us out here in Cuauhtemoc more than any other place that I have been my whole mission! It is a land of miracles!! I am writing with wet feet and cold fingers that will be cold and wet all day long, but it is so worth it for the people that are here in this magical place. I know this message we have is true, and being a missionary is the best thing that has ever happened to me!

Love you!

this is what the street looks like when it rains. they don`t have a drainage system in the streets, so pretty big puddles form up. People die from drowning when it rains here.
